Contour Segment Grinder

The Raloid Segment Contour Grinder was developed to accurately finish grind the outside diameter of passenger car and light truck segments and grind leading/trailing chamfers if chamfer option is ordered.

Straight conventional grinding as well as taper grinding operations (CAM & ANCHOR) are possible with Raloid’s custom drum and straight and eccentric throws adapted for the required grinding operation.

The Contour Chamfer Grinder Option operation is to grind the outside radius and the chamfer on each end of the lining to the dimensions specified on the part print. The grind on the lining material is perpendicular to the length of the lining. The chamfers are tangent to a radius slightly larger than the inside radius of the lining. The operator will stack the properly orientated segment lining assembly to be ground on the feed conveyor.

The segment lining will be loaded into the machine by the drop feed conveyor. The segment lining is fed into the tooling, located and clamped. The tooling is advanced to the programmable first chamfer position where the first chamfer is ground. The rotation of the tooling continues and the radius on the segment lining is ground. The tooling is advanced to the programmable second chamfer position where the second chamfer is ground. The segment lining continues to advance to the unload section where the lining continues to advance to the unload section where the lining is unclamped and unloaded.
